De las películas animadas por computadora, CGI, etc

Algunos personajes CGI  nunca serán olvidados y hasta detestados ... ¿no Jar Jar?

Algunas películas con personajes totalmente en ese estilo son adorables, Toy Story marcó época y la tercera película es una de las mejores películas animadas en varios años... y hasta donde supe la más taquillera de todos los tiempos.

De un tiempo en adelante se ha vuelto usual ver películas en ese estilo, o también mezclando CGI con personajes reales.

En muchos casos eso potencia a la película visualmente, aunque en otros casos me da la impresión que los creadores parecen pensar que sólo por el hecho de ser animadas así ya tienen un "WIN" total. Muy mal pensado.

Vi el trailer de la película del oso Yogi, y aunque me encante el personaje original y me parece genial la transición al 3D, no dejé de pensar que la película al ojo me parecía mediocre por decir lo menos, al menos para lo que esperaba que hicieran con un personaje clásico como Yogi. Deberían pensar más en las historias, no todo es CGI y eso. Sin historia no pasará de ser otra más del montón.

El Trailer de Star Wars 3D The Clone Wars era la sorpresa de Lucas

Ya lo decía. Por lo que veo la pelona les sacará roncha a los jedis, dicen que durará algo más de 20 minutos el capítulo de la serie a estrenarse el 2008 y la dirección será al estilo del Episodio IV (¿será?). Me pareció reconocer a Mon Mothma, la líder rebelde de cabello corto que se ve tía justamente en Episodio IV y que hace un cameo juvenil en Episodio III. Lo que no me cuadra es el look de Yoda.

Revisando el álbum familiar

Luego de ver el documental Walking with Cavemen, uno de los mejores que he visto sobre el tema, me quedó bien claro que lo que movió la evolución está bien peleado entre el clima y el sexo, sí, el sexo.

Lo que cuelga de la mano de ‘No la Mamá’ es el bebé de Lucy

El documental inicia siguiendo la historia de Lucy y Bebé Dikika... bien feo ser bebé en esos tiempos.

Lluvia de rocones?...Es que en esa época no habían oído lo de ‘el que esté libre de pecado eche la primera piedra’. ¡Pobre Mamut!

Luego todo se mueve a través de algunos millones de años, y les digo que hasta reconocerán algunos personajes de la cinta animada La Era del Hielo.

... Así como al verdadero King Kong, al que existió en Asia de verdad y se chocó con nuestros remotos ancestros.

La fotografía y los CG así como el maquillaje de los actores estuvo bastante bueno y en algunos casos realmente excelente. En realidad está bastante recomendable, violencia, épica y sentimiento. la narración mezclada con acción propia de las historias de cada parte están bien encajadas. Lástima que no lo haya podido encontrar localmente en DvD, pero como hay gente compartidora ya lo vi. Luego de bajarme las 9 partes...

Master Yoda 3D de acuerdo a mi amigo chismoso

Por no revisar el correo de mis suscripciones entre invitaciones a paseos y otras cosas me había perdido un mensaje que tenia casi 3 semanas, era que al fin ya han sido acabado 2 episodios de la serie de televisión StarWars3D a salir el 2008 y como ven arriba por lo menos hay Master Yoda garantizado.... aunque lo veo muy “cartoonish”... se parece mucho al de la serie Clone Wars de Cartoon Network visible online TODAVIA vía la web oficial. (yo vi primero Clone Wars por computadora luego por la tele)

De cualquier modo sapeé en la web oficial a ver si había más a estas alturas pero nada, solamente un artículo con podcast de George Lucas que como de costumbre dice mucho y cuenta poco, al menos en la versión escuchable para los no paganos como yo. Lo cierto es que el universo expandido de StarWars crecerá por lo que dice George.

Yoda As We've Never Seen Him Before

We've all been waiting to see Yoda in a light saber duel and Star Wars Episode II does not miss the mark. Bill Desowitz from Animation World Magazine speaks with ILM on how they created Yoda in CGI and brought him to action.

From Puppet to CG
"We considered Yoda from The Empire Strikes Back and asked, 'What makes Yoda Yoda?'" explains Tim Harrington, senior computer graphics animator. "Frank Oz's puppetry, subtle nuances, the heavy eyelids over the pupils, how his ears jiggle. We were going after the essence of Oz."
THE Scene
Not surprisingly, most of the effort went into the battle with Count Dooku. Lucas presented an animatic of Yoda fighting with a light saber. "George was adamant that Yoda be a master swordsman," Harrington stresses. "The fan in us thought it was cool, but the artist in us became cynical. How do you pull this off and not have it look ridiculous? Does Yoda create multiples of himself? Does he fly? Does he use the Force? One of the ways to make it believable was to lead the audience on -- to show them that here comes something that you've never seen before. When he pulls out that light saber, it's a very dramatic entrance. George said it should be a showdown like in a Western, and then suggested, 'What if he pulls at his robe to reveal the light saber?' It was a technological nightmare. Cloth is so difficult.

"I animated Yoda pantomiming the movement where he grabs the robe. I figured out the exact frame he touches it with the technical animator and we tacked the cloth to Yoda's hand to give it that Western feel."
But inevitably the two Jedi masters do battle with their light sabers as in a samurai movie. "The sequence took three months with a team of nine animators," Harrington adds. "We choreographed the moves in a reverse way, like solving a puzzle. Looking, fighting, countering Dooku's moves. Each one looked like a check. We used background plates of Lee and his double matched to Yoda. The hard part was figuring out how Yoda fights because he's so small. We looked at a bunch of films and came up with the moves. We looked at tennis, we looked at samurai, we looked at acrobatic power moves in the circus. The Phantom Menace DVD was also very helpful because it had some cool new Jedi fighting moves that were explained in the supplementals. One of them was Obi Wan holding the light saber with two hands. We thought that would be good for Yoda too.
"George pointed out that Yoda's too small to stay on the ground, so he should do a lot of jumping and spinning. He should be more acrobatic than the other Jedi. But one of the first things we questioned was how to attack Dooku? Does he go for the legs? No, George said he wants to kill Dooku, so he should go for the head and the chest."
Then, after the fight, Lucas wanted to bring the viewer back to the reality of a more familiar Yoda, so he came up with the idea of Yoda being so wiped out that he picks up his cane and slowly drags it on the floor. "We wanted the audience to feel that it was now in the presence of the same Yoda we know and love."
